Well first and foremost its a backpackers and its winter so not many people here the place is clean and tidy but that could change depending on the intlelists who wish to come you know the ones dont wish to clean up after themselves or consider others and the guy that runs the place seems decent so

The shower is a glorified cubicle reminiscent of a cesspool with a rusty chair and no where to hang your clothes or put your stuff to stay dry.

This place is by far the dirtiest place I have stayed in austrailia and many will say it depends on the backpackers staying there but it really doesn't. Black mould comes from long term uncleanliness and the damp walls. I and others agreed we felt run down and ill staying here coincedence? You can only pay cash and there are no official receipts every time you pay rent. Michael will find you work of course and will charge you $6 per person every day on minibus fare but the work will very quickly come to an end. It doesn't help that the seeka farm which most of the jobs are really dislike Michael and would like to cut ties as they told us at work. The wife of the owner never makes any effort to smile or speak to anyone if anything she plays a big part in the dodgy ways of the hostel. Backpackers will be blamed for drinking and smoking etc however who supplies the smoking ? The family. They will also threaten to call the police all the time which is silly as the family itself could get in a lot of trouble should they get caught for what they do. If you come here with no money this will be an advantage to the family as you are now stuck!! They will also call your farm boss (the jobs you start is nothing to do with the hostel so you aren't employed under Michael) if you leave this hostel they will phone your boss and lie to get you fired trust me this has happened to someone during my stay. This place needs to be investigated as soon as possible before more backpackers are in this situation. You even have to supply your own toilet paper!!! One washing machine works which cost $4 the tumble dryer hasn't worked for the whole time I stayed which was a lot over a month!! Insects everywhere, one fridge in every room even in 10 bed room just one!

They start there first day and yes the weather is hot its nature we can not make the weather cooler because people dont want to work under the sun when you decide to work in farms you should know its hot because its summer and they start working hang over when everyone makes 100 150 hard workers make more these ones make 1 bin all day because they sat down all day doing nothing thats how you earn $30 a day no farmer will pay for you to come sit down all day and go home which what this person did

Beware: do NOT stay here longer than 1 night. You can convince the owner to let you pay for only one night (for us, 3 people, cost $30 each). Do not get trapped in to their weekly scheme. Head to Shep immediately if possible.

The kitchen was disastrous with more flies than I have seen yet in Australia and a mountain of garbage next to the tower of dirty dishes.

The rooms haven't been cleaned in months, and there are fridges in the two rooms we saw that each had rotting food in them.

We help them as much as we can and no one can say we didnt get paid because when something goes wrong and the farmer doesnt pay we pay for them which comes out of our own pocket the reason we pay is beacause we found the job and its our responsibility if you cant get your money

DO NOT COME HERE!!!! We found out about this place from an online advert guaranteeing fruit picking work. We had work and an apartment in Sydney but needed the second year visa so once we had a guarantee of work we gave notice on our jobs and apartment and left for Shepparton.

If you want to do farm jobs and get your 88 days you have to at least try as long as you try you will make money in farms and we help you get the job after that its you and the farmer

In hindsight maybe we were the lucky ones never actually having to spend a night here!

Before telling us this they took photocopies of our passports and made us fill forms out including vehicle reg, home adress etc. I can only assume that they do this kind of thing regularly and now take passports and details so people don't kick off.

I had been calling them every week or so to make sure there was still work and accomodation and the last call I made was the night before we set off.

And for the person who left that review which made me upset because most of it is not true they came here asking a job and bed not just them we have this problem a lot they start drinking the same night and also vomit in my toilets not in the toilet on the ground and just leave it like that

The family (mother, father, and a sketchy son) who run this hostel do not come across as good people, as they only seemed 'nice' when we seemed like promising candidates for them to keep under their lock and key. They immediately turned nasty when we asked to only stay the night and kept badgering us to pay for a week until we grabbed our stuff and were literally about to set up camp in the field across the way.
  • Sarah
    Added 2013.11.16
We were there for about 30/45 minutes arguing with them and in that time managed to talk to a couple of people staying there. They said "it's basically a slave Labour camp run by mobsters".

We need backpackers that actually come to work not drink and smoke cannabis all night and not go to work when ever they feel like then expect to have a job everytime they feel like it
  • Cody
    Added 2013.04.25
So please if you want to come here make sure you want to work and get your 88 visa because we dont want people that drinks every night and disturbs others that is sleeping and resting for the next day
  • Timothy
    Added 2013.04.19
We help backpackers get jobs around the area and we send them to the best one available at that time and the farmer pays you directly so what ever you work you get paid from the farmer we just get accomadation fee per week which is $125 per week and its a good price
